Brisbane North PHN supports clinicians and communities in Brisbane’s northern suburbs, Moreton Bay Regional Council and parts of Somerset Regional Council. It covers approximately 4,100 km2 of urban, regional and rural areas, with a population of over 900,000.
Brisbane South PHN covers a large area south of the Brisbane River, and includes metropolitan, rural and remote island locations and diverse populations. All up one million or 23% of the QLD’s population is covered by this PHN.
Central and Eastern Sydney PHN includes areas from Sydney city, Bondi, west to Homebush, south to Waterfall to Norfolk Island and Lord Howe Island. The population at the 2016 Census was 1,572,237 including an Indigenous population of 13,506. This is a high growth region of New South Wales.
Nepean Blue Mountains PHN is responsible for a remote and rugged area in New South Wales. Covering 9,063 square kilometres and a population of 367,783 in 2016. The population is 49.57% male and 50.43% female.
North Coast NSW PHN covers 35,570 square kilometres from the coast, west to the New England Tablelands escarpment, north to the Queensland border and southern to just beyond Port Macquarie. Approximately 520,000 people live on the North Coast spread across the region in diverse locations.
Northern Queensland PHN coordinates primary health care services for the Mackay, Townsville, Cairns, Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait regions, home to 730,000 people, 83,000 of whom are Indigenous Australians.
Northern Sydney PHN population at 2016 Census was 914,229 covering an area of 890 square kilometres. Population growth was 5.81%, with more than two thirds in the 19 to 64 age group. Indigenous Australians represent only 3,326 or 0.36% of the region. This is a growth area for people aged 65+.
South Eastern NSW PHN covers the area south of the Sydney region including Wollongong, west to Binalong, Queanbeyan and south to the Victorian border. A total area of 50,177 square kilometres and population of 611,202 including 21,122 Indigenous Australians as at 2016 ABS Census. Population growth prior to Census was 4.09% with people aged 65+ representing 19.37%.
South Western NSW PHN covers the area south west of the Sydney region including Bankstown, west to Nattai and south to Wingello. A total area of 6,186 square kilometres and population of 964,351 including 16,445 Indigenous Australians as at 2016 ABS Census. Population growth prior to Census was 8.5% with people aged 65+ representing 12.7%.
